Developing Leadership Talent

Developing Leaders at a Deeper Level

Leadership pipeline strategies are popping up everywhere as a way for organizations to prepare for the inevitable retirement of older managers and the coming shortage of solid talent to backfill key management positions.

Such “pipes” typically expose employees with strong growth potential to a variety of functional roles and geographic locations, ultimately leading to positions of broader responsibility and greater complexity.

In order to successfully ascend, however, emerging leaders must develop a deep awareness not only of their current style and its impact but, even more importantly, of their assumptions and habits of thought that determine how they actually function and how they lead others.

Such development involves much more than simply enhancing their people management skills. It includes inculcating in them a willingness to solicit feedback and confront patterns of behavior that are preventing them from reaching their full potential as a leader.
