Motivated Employees

Creating a Motivating Work Environment

Economic conditions and market forces can fluctuate widely, generating fear and discouragement that dampens the enthusiasm of employees and translates into lower morale, reduced output, and poorer quality work. In addition, boredom, burnout, and approaching retirement can sap a worker’s will to do a good job.

In all fields and especially in work involving technical/professional knowledge, creative ideas and independent initiative, skills alone will not ensure superior job performance. Employees must also possess the desire to apply their talent, energy, and ideas to achieve strong results.

Each manager plays a critical role in keeping his or her staff intellectually and emotionally connected to what motivates them in their work. But many managers do not realize the positive impact they can have on their employees’ motivation to perform, nor do they know how to bring up this issue with their people.

Every manager’s training should include an understanding of the impact of a wide range of motivators on employee performance and should include specific skills for helping staff members identify what currently motivates them in their job and career.
